What Are Organic Compounds? And Why Do We Need Them in Small Amounts? post thumbnail image

Vitamins are organic compounds that most people need in small amounts. Most vitamins have to come from fruit and vegetables since the human body either doesn’t produce them naturally or creates very little without the need for them. For most people, vitamin C isn’t available in large enough amounts in fruit and vegetables. So a person would need to take vitamin C supplements to get enough of this organic compound.
Although the diet can provide some of the necessary vitamins, it’s also essential to take some other minerals and nutrients. A healthy diet may be difficult for some people to follow and is one reason why a vitamin c supplement may be more effective than just eating many vegetables. In addition, most people are aware of how much vitamin C they should be taking daily. If you’re not taking enough of it, your body isn’t getting all of the benefits that it needs. So a vitamin c supplement can be very beneficial to those on a healthy diet. The same is true for Biotin, which helps to build strong bones and teeth.
There are two different categories of vitamins: fat-soluble and water-soluble. The fat-soluble vitamins are divided into retinol-based vitamins such as vitamin A, D and E, and water-soluble vitamins such as vitamin C, complex D and beta carotene. Both of these vitamins require organic compounds to be created by our bodies, so we can’t obtain them through the diet alone.
Organic compounds needed for fat-soluble vitamins include carotenoids, flavonoids, proanthocyanins, lycopene and many others. For water-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A, D & E, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene and others, organic compounds are needed. Unfortunately, not all foods can contain all of these organic compounds, so many people have to supplement to meet their daily requirements.
Some vitamins and minerals do not contain organic compounds, but we can obtain them quickly through diet. Plenty of fruits and vegetables make up most people’s diets and are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Other organic compounds that people need in small quantities are selenium, iodine, zinc and many others. Some of these substances cannot be found in foods, so they must be obtained through supplements.
We need to get the proper amounts of these organic compounds through our diets because they can play an essential role in maintaining health and immunity. The average person will obtain most of the vitamin and mineral essential elements required by eating a healthy diet. But sometimes, that isn’t enough, so we have to find unique, organic compounds to help us maintain healthy body weight.
